Tell us about one way in which Breakthrough shaped your path?
Breakthrough genuinely was my gateway into teaching. I joined the Somerville campus virtually in 2020 after hearing about it from other education-minded folks on campus and it was an incredible experience! Having the opportunity to serve students through supplemental education and homework help was fantastic and exposing me to teaching is what clued me in to the fact that it was something I really liked to do. I can’t thank Breakthrough Somerville for all the support along the way and for setting me on the path I’m on now!
How do you carry Breakthrough spirit with you today?
To this day I’m incapable of listening to Dua Lipa’s Levitating without singing the Somerville Breakthrough lyrics. Every time it comes on I remember how many insane moments there were in the TF music video for that, how frustrating it was trying to learn choreography for certain parts, and the labor that I went through to try and get the elevator in my apartment building to time perfectly with the music. I’m pretty sure my neighbors were scared of me after that, but it was hilarious and totally worth it.
