Breakthrough Gathers Community for Engaging Conversation on STEAM Education with Congressman Kennedy

On December 4, over 160 of Greater Boston’s educators, elected and school officials, and Breakthrough supporters gathered at Google for the 8th Annual Breakthroughs in Education, featuring an expert panel discussion on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Education moderated by Congressman Joe Kennedy III.

Over the course of the event, Breakthrough’s guests:

1. Engaged in a conversation about educational equity and STEAM learning.
   Our four panelists shared their approaches for engaging young people in STEAM education, and their insights on scaling such strategies to all students.
2. Heard from Congressman Joe Kennedy III about his work in advocating for STEAM education for all students in Massachusetts.
3. Celebrated excellence in teaching with the presentation of the Elizabeth D. Hodder Award.
   Breakthrough presented the Hodder Award to Austin Young, a three-time Teaching Fellow and senior at Arizona State University. The audience witnessed a heartfelt tribute from two of Austin’s past Breakthrough students, Ruth and Mohamed.
4. Raised over $90,000 to support educational equity in Greater Boston through Breakthrough’s effective, research-based college access and teacher training programs.
